I should order a new suit of sails for Surprise from Cameron for the NACs.
The Sailing Instructions state:
'18.2 To affect a protest against another yacht, the protesting yacht shall hail “Protest”, and raise a red protest flag as soon as possible. If the protested yacht does not exonerate herself, the protesting yacht shall dock at the Seabrook Beach Club immediately following her finish. Any protesting yacht failing to dock and follow through with her protest shall be disqualified.'
So, what constitutes not following through? What if I get into a situation where I think I'm fouled. In order to protest, I must hail 'protest' and raise the red flag ASAP. If the fouling boat does not exonerate herself, do I have to file the protest? What if I remove the red flag before crossing the finish line? I guess the problem I have is that I don't want to be DSQ'd for making a wrong split second decision. If I'm fouled, and I don't protest immediately, I can't file the protest. If I do protest and then decide I was wrong to protest, I'm disqualified. hmmm....
From the skipper's meeting last night, there is one special thing:
"The Race Committee may deviate from the posted starting order by flying a Second Substitute beneath any Class Flag. If this occurs, the class normally starting next shall be skipped, and the next Class Flag to be raised shall be for that class which normally starts after the skipped class."
